"If you can listen and respond to the inner messages of your spirit, then you're in a state of nourishment."
—from the book If the Buddha Came to Dinner:
How to Nourish Your Body to Awaken Your Spirit"

Many of us have learned to fear our hunger as if it was something dangerous. We don't feel that we can trust it so we ignore it, deny it or attempt to control it via one diet or another. Yet hunger is a gift and we were once intimately connected with our hunger signals until we learned to override them. To be truly nourished we need to learn to discern stomach hunger from other types of hunger, honor the metaphorical language in our non- hunger eating and dare to give ourselves what we truly want and need.

In this series, we will gently explore hunger from a place of curiosity and non-judgement using process painting with facilitator Stephanie Gray and discussion with nutrition coach Karen Ialapi. We will practice hunger discernment by reconnecting with our body’s internal wisdom and feedback cues, becoming aware of our eating triggers. As we work with this awareness, we begin paving our own path to True Nourishment.

We'll spend the afternoons learning to explore our creative sides and express ourselves in an environment free from judgement or critique. No experience is necessary. There are no mistakes.
Take this time to reconnect and find true nourishment from the inside out.

Karen Ialapi, RD, LD, CDE, is a registered dietitian, nutrition coach, culinary enthusiast and certified diabetes educator. She is the founder and owner of Pure Sustenance, a nutrition and wellness coaching business that helps people create a healthy relationship with food, respect their bodies, and rediscover what truly nourishes them.

Karen earned her BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from Michigan State University in 1986. Dietitians undergo a rigorous credentialing process and while all dietitians are nutritionists, very few nutritionists are dietitians. She blends over 25 years of diverse experience in the field of nutrition with her clinical expertise, behavioral skills, food and product knowledge, and desire to offer a more life giving approach to food than our diet-obsessed culture provides.

For more information about Karen's practice, visit her website at puresustenance.com or contact her at 816-806-1245.

Stephanie Gray,  is co-owner of Creative Nectar Studio and a process painting facilitator. After picking up a brush in 1997, she was forever changed by the power of the collective creative force. Describing process painting as a way to connect with Source, Stephanie uses it as a tool to practice present-moment awareness. Her passion for helping others wherever they are fuels her commitment and purpose. In 1999 Stephanie opened the Center for Mindful Exploration out of her Kansas City home. She has been a volunteer artist for the “Memories in the Making” program of the Alzheimer’s Association, an Americorp VISTA volunteer at VanGo Mobile Arts, a studio assistant to her process painting teacher Sarah Oblinger of Paint or Die Studio, and a resident artist and volunteer at VALA Gallery in Mission, KS.
